Judge Ellen Carolus started her legal career in 1992 as a trainee Public Prosecutor in the Attorney General’s Chambers. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Mauritius in 2001 and passed the Barristers Vocational Examination of the Council of Legal Education of Mauritius in 2002. She was admitted to the Seychelles Bar in 2009.

She attended specialist training courses in legal drafting organised by the Commonwealth and by the Legal Training Institute of Malaysia. She has been a full member of the Commonwealth Association of Legislative Counsels since 2012.

Mrs. Carolus was employed by the Department of Legal affairs as State Counsel in 2003 and rose to the rank of Principal State Counsel. Since her resignation from that position, in addition to practicing as an attorney-at –law, Mrs. Carolus has also served as the Director of Legal Affairs in the Fair Trading Commission  as well as legal consultant on various projects. Another of her appointments was as legal counsel to the Sacos Group.

She was appointed Master of the Supreme Court in October 2015, a position she held until  2018 when she was appointed  Judge of the Supreme Court.
