Mohan Niranjit Burhan was born on 13th January 1957. He is Sri Lankan by birth and a naturalised Seychellois. He has a Master of Laws (LLM Distinction) in International Trade Law from the University of Wales, UK and was an Attorney at Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka having completed his professional studies at the Sri Lanka Law College. He has served as a Judge in two commonwealth jurisdictions namely Sri lanka and the Seychelles since 1988.
In the Sri Lankan judiciary, he served as a Magistrate, District Judge and a Civil Appellate High Court Judge whilst in the Seychelles Judiciary, he served as Magistrate on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue. He is presently the most senior judge in the Supreme Court. He has also been appointed as Acting Chief Justice of Seychelles in the absence of the Chief Justice.
Mr. Burhan is currently the head of the Criminal Division of the Supreme Court of Seychelles. He is the Chairman of the Board of Examiners of the Bar Enrolment Examination and Chairman of the Judicial Committee for legal practitioners.
