Darell Damien Uranie was called to the Bar on Monday 5 February 2024 in the Supreme Court. The ceremony, presided over in Court Room 1 by Chief Justice Rony Govinden and Judge Alexandra Madeleine was attended by family and friends of Mr. Uranie.
Speaking of Mr. Uranie’s pupillage time, lawyer Karen Domingue expressed her support for him as he fulfilled all the requirements necessary to the best of his ability. Judge Madeleine also said a few words, as Mr. Uranie did part of his pupillage under her Chambers when she was still a practicing lawyer.
“I have been impressed by his skills and passion,” she said of Mr. Uranie. “I wish him all the success.”
As the Chief Justice welcomed him to the Bar and his new profession, he imparted some words of wisdom, “It is not just intellect that matters, but also quality of character and professionalism. It is a noble profession, so that must be reflected in the way you conduct yourself. Don’t forget the principles and rules. Be kind and honest and with time the rest will fall into place.”
Mr. Uranie gained his Bachelor of Law (LLB) in 2017, then spent his pupilage between the Chambers of Alexandra Madeleine and then Karen Domingue from 1 September 2021 to January 2024.
