The Chief Justice’s office also gives you the End of Year message of the Chief Justice below:

As we draw the curtains on another eventful year, I am honored to reflect on the unwavering commitment and dedicated efforts of our Judiciary in delivering justice to our nation. The onset of each New Year is a moment of reflection on the past, and formation of plans for the future. The Seychelles Courts have navigated challenges and triumphs, demonstrating resilience and determination in upholding the rule of law.

Throughout this year, our Courts have diligently strived to resolve cases, ensuring that justice is served in a fair manner. While facing the complexity of trials and hearings, our team efficiently managed logistical challenges and procedural challenges, enabling the smooth progression of these sensitive cases. Their dedication has been instrumental in maintaining the integrity of our judicial processes.

Celebrating the illustrious 120-year journey of our Supreme Court was a momentous occasion marked by a well-attended Symposium. This milestone allowed us to reflect on our rich history while charting a course toward a more progressive and efficient judicial system.

Engagements and exchanges with the other Judiciaries in the region have broadened our perspectives and enriched our collective knowledge. Continuing legal training and exchanges for judges and staff members remain integral, empowering us to navigate evolving legal landscapes with competence and expertise.

I am also pleased with the successful appointment of a Chief Magistrate, a testament to our commitment to ensuring efficiency and strong leadership within our judiciary.

Amidst the recent challenging events that hit our nation, the resilience of our people shines through. It is during times of adversity that we unite and emerge stronger. Despite these hurdles, Seychelles continues to move forward, displaying remarkable resilience and solidarity.

As we envision the path ahead, I reaffirm the Judiciary’s vital role in our society. We pledge to serve the public while upholding the rights and dignity of all individuals involved in disputes in accordance with our constitutional obligations. Our commitment to fairness, impartiality, and justice remains unwavering.

Looking forward, we aspire to a Seychelles where conflicts are resolved amicably, leading to fewer litigations. Our goal is to foster a society where robust conflict resolution mechanisms minimize the burden on our judicial system, so that we may focus our efforts on the more significant challenges that lie ahead.

In closing, I extend my gratitude to all who have contributed to the Judiciary’s endeavors this year. May the coming year be filled with fresh opportunities that ignite our passion, moments of triumph that celebrate our collective achievements, and a continued sense of camaraderie that makes our country united.

As we embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, let us move forward with optimism, knowing that better times await us.

Wishing you all a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.

Chief Justice Rony Govinden
