In a meaningful act of solidarity, social responsibility and social justice, the Judiciary of Seychelles presented a donation collected during the Reopening of Supreme Court church service in early January 2025. A total of SCR 6,812 and 10 euros was collected and will go to the North East Point Hospital – Hospice Unit.
This official donation was made to the Ministry of Health on Tuesday, 18 February, 2025, at the Palais de Justice auditorium by the Chief Justice Rony Govinden to the CEO of the Health Care Agency, Dr. Danny Louange, in the presence of Judiciary staff and health officials. The donation reinforces the Judiciary’s commitment to upholding the dignity and quality of care for the most vulnerable members of society.

A Commitment to Justice Beyond the Courtroom
Speaking at the event, Chief Justice Rony Govinden highlighted the connection between justice and social responsibility:
“Justice is not only about courts and legal decisions—it is about humanity. It is about ensuring that no one is forgotten, especially in their most vulnerable moments. We recognize that dignity in life must extend to dignity in death. The Judiciary is proud to contribute to this cause.”
Every year, the Judiciary chooses a cause to support with the monies collected at the church service held in honor of the Reopening of Courts ceremony. Over the years, previous causes the Judiciary donated to have included the School of the Exceptional Child and ‘Make A Child Smile’ Foundation, to name a few.
At the event, the Judiciary also gave small tokens of appreciation to the Judiciary Choir members who sang at the church service, bringing warmth and joy to all attendees of this auspicious yearly event.

World Social Justice Day, observed annually on February 20, serves as a global reminder of the need for fairness, inclusion, and support for marginalized groups. Seychelles has long been a leader in social welfare within the region, but challenges remain, particularly in ensuring that healthcare and social support reach those who need it most.
Strengthening Support for End-of-Life Care
Receiving the funds on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Danny Louange, CEO of the Health Care Agency, expressed gratitude for the Judiciary’s generosity, emphasizing the importance of palliative care in Seychelles:
“This is an important occasion because within government, we believe in providing dignity and care for all—especially for those at the end of their lives. Too often, patients in hospice care are overlooked, yet they have the right to live their final days in comfort and with dignity. This donation will go directly to supporting their needs, ensuring they receive the best care possible.”

The North East Point Hospital Hospice Unit provides essential palliative care for patients with serious illnesses, offering pain relief, emotional support, and end-of-life care in a compassionate setting.
