The First Lady of Seychelles, Her Excellency Mrs. Linda Ramkalawan, visited the Judiciary on Friday, March 7, as a special guest speaker at a gathering held at the Palais de Justice. This event was organized in honor of International Women’s Day to recognize and appreciate the contributions of women within the legal system.

In her speech, the First Lady shared words of wisdom and insight, encouraging women to uplift one another rather than foster animosity or jealousy. She spoke passionately about her dedication to the rights of children, the elderly, and single mothers—causes that remain at the heart of her advocacy.
During the interactive session, Judiciary staff had the unique opportunity to ask her questions, allowing for a candid exchange on various topics. She opened up about her personal life, the challenges of juggling family responsibilities with public life, and how her mother—now in her 80s—remains her greatest source of inspiration.

The First Lady’s warmth and humility shone through as she lightheartedly reflected on her husband’s journey to the presidency, admitting that she once thought “he’s not going to make it” after his long tenure in politics—only to find themselves suddenly thrust into the national spotlight.
Beyond her personal insights, the First Lady shared a powerful message on true gender empowerment in Seychelles. She urged women to support one another, emphasizing the importance of lifting each other up rather than engaging in criticism or division.
Her closing words resonated deeply with those in attendance:
“I wish women supported each other more. We shouldn’t tear each other down. Rather, you should think of other women as sisters. When you see a woman succeed—be happy for her. If you see a woman going astray, speak to her in person rather than behind her back. And when it’s your turn to succeed, give your hand out to a fellow woman to lift her up too.”
