Today, as we join the global community in commemorating Human Rights Day, we are reminded of the enduring principles that bind us as a just and democratic society. This year’s theme-“Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All”-encapsulates the very essence of the work we do within the judiciary to uphold the rule of law and ensure that every individual in Seychelles can enjoy their fundamental rights without fear or discrimination.

Human rights are not mere ideals; they are actionable commitments that require vigilance, dedication, and accountability. In our Judiciary, we continue to champion these rights through ongoing reforms aimed at improving access to justice, fostering transparency, and modernizing our legal systems.

From the implementation of digital tools to expedite case processing to ensuring equitable access to legal aid, we are steadfast in our mission to safeguard the constitutional rights of every citizen.

As Chief Justice, I urge all stakeholders-lawmakers, legal practitioners, civil society, and the public-to reaffirm their dedication to the principles of equality, fairness, and the inherent dignity of all individuals. Let us remember that human rights are universal,
indivisible, and inalienable, and it is our collective responsibility to protect and promote them for present and future generations.
On this day, let us not only reflect on the progress we have made but also renew our commitment to addressing the challenges that lie ahead.

I call upon all stakeholders-lawmakers, legal practitioners, civil society, and the public-to reaffirm their dedication to the principles of equality, fairness, and the inherent dignity of all individuals. Let us remember that human rights are universal, indivisible, and inalienable, and it is our collective responsibility to protect and promote them for present and future generations.

On this day, let us not only reflect on the progress we have made but also renew our commitment to addressing the challenges that lie ahead. Together, we can build a society where justice prevails, freedoms are respected, and dignity is preserved for all.
