The Judiciary of Seychelles has successfully concluded a week of high-level engagements, marking the close of the Southern and Eastern Africa Chief Justices’ Forum (SEACJF) Leadership Training and the Southern and East Africa Judicial Administrators Association (SEAJAA) Executive Committee Meeting.

In celebration of this milestone, and in appreciation of the distinguished delegates, the Judiciary hosted a series of cultural and leisure activities on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 April 2026 designed to offer visiting Chief Justices and judicial administrators a memorable experience of Seychelles’ natural beauty and rich heritage.

Delegates were treated to a scenic sunset cruise through one of Seychelles’ marine parks, providing a unique opportunity to experience the country’s pristine waters and coastal landscapes. The programme then concluded on Friday evening with a vibrant Creole Gala Night, set against a beachfront backdrop with a traditional bonfire and panoramic ocean views.

The evening commenced with a captivating performance of moutya, a traditional Seychellois dance deeply rooted in the country’s history. Recognised as part of Seychelles’ intangible cultural heritage, moutya originated among enslaved Africans and is characterised by rhythmic drumming, chanting, and expressive movements around a fire, symbolising resilience, storytelling, and communal spirit.

Guests were then invited to enjoy an array of authentic Creole cuisine, including local favourites such as octopus curry and breadfruit, followed by an evening of music and dance celebrating the vibrant rhythms of Seychellois culture.

These closing events brought a fitting end to a week of meaningful dialogue, knowledge exchange, and regional cooperation among judicial leaders.

The Judiciary of Seychelles expresses its sincere gratitude to all participants and partners for their engagement and contribution throughout the forums. It has been both an honour and a privilege to host such a distinguished gathering, bringing together Chief Justices and judicial professionals from across the region.

As the week concluded, Seychelles reaffirms its commitment to playing an active role on the regional judicial stage. It is our hope that the engagements held were not only fruitful in advancing judicial leadership and innovation, but also reflective of Seychelles’ dedication to collaboration, progress, and the strengthening of justice systems across Southern and Eastern Africa.
